About The Show
The world premiere of the new musical Take Flight by award-winning song writing duo Richard Maltby and David Shire, with book by John Weidman, opens at the Chocolate Factory from 13th July.
Sam Buntrock (Director), David Farley (Designer) and Caroline Humphris (Musical Supervisor), the creative team behind our multi-award-winning production of Sunday In The Park With George, are re-united for the first time prior to transferring Sunday to Broadway this winter.
Take Flight weaves together fact and fiction to tell the inspirational stories of the pioneers of flight – the Wright Brothers, Charles Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart.
The prestigious American composing duo Richard Maltby and David Shire have written many shows together including Closer Than Ever; Starting Here, Starting Now and Baby. Individually, David Shire is an Oscar-winning film score composer (All The President’s Men, Norma Rae and, most recently, Zodiac). Richard Maltby wrote the lyrics for Miss Saigon and devised and directed Ain’t Misbehavin’ (Tony Award – Best Director) and Fosse. John Weidman is a long-time Sondheim collaborator, having written the book for Assassins, Pacific Overtures and Bounce.
